Sta. Ana

The Municipality of Sta. Ana is a third-class landlocked municipality in the coastal province of Pampanga, part of Region III or Central Luzon.

The metropolis of Sta. Ana is bounded by the towns of Magalang and Arayat on the north, the nearby town of Candaba on the east side, the town of  San Luis situated on the southern side, and Mexico on the western side.

The Municipality of Sta. Ana is mainly a farm town, predominantly the four barangays i.e. San Agustin, Sto. Rosario, San Roque, and San Pablo.

Those four barangays contributed as one of the top producers of imported and homegrown rice grains, bananas, corn, sugar cane, and diverse kinds of root vegetables. The collected fruits and harvests are being supplied to the neighboring municipalities inside and outside the province of Pampanga.

The Sta. Ana folks are also widely famous as the maker of “Majiganggas” (Huge traditional puppetry mainly used during the town’s Parade).

History

The Municipality of Sta. Ana is formerly known as “Bale Pinpin,” which means ‘laid aside.’ The name ‘Bale Pinpin’ came into existence in  1810, when the town lost its respective barrios to  Mexico, San Luis, and Arayat.

In the beginning, the town was a component of the vast areas of forest land, predominantly bamboo groves, starting from the town of Apalit and Betis in Guagua.

As time goes by, many people arrived to settle down for good and cleared the place of the town.

In the 1600s, the Spanish settlers came into the town of Sta. Ana and the Spanish inhabitants established it as a parish in 1760.

In the year 1836, a church was erected to serve the increasing numbers of residents of the town. Later on, the Spanish administration assigned a new name ‘Sta. Ana,’ after its patron saint, St. Anne, the mother of the Virgin Mary.

In 1905, the American settlers came and constituted a civil government consequently, the town had a small number of compliant taxpayers, which made the town of Sta. Ana, a constituent of the townlet of Arayat.

It was only on the 1st of January 1913 when the town of Sta. Ana was finally acknowledged as a separate municipality through the appeal of its representatives.
