Another win for the Philippines. We did it again!
A new Filipina Queen recently raised the Philippines’ flag at the international beauty pageant.
PH’s representative Joanna Camelle Mercado defeated 24 other participants to win the crown of Miss Continentes Unidos 2022 (Miss United Continents 2022) on Saturday, August 6 (August 7- Manila Time) held at Parque Las Vegas in Portoviejo, Ecuador.
Originally from Brgy. Carmencita of Floridablanca, Pampanga, the newly crowned Miss Continentes Unidos 2022, has a degree in Secondary Education and is a teacher by profession.
She is 26 years old and was also a finalist in Miss World Philippines 2019.
She is the 2nd Filipina to win the Miss Continentes Unidos title after Jeslyn Santos won the Philippines’ first Miss United Continents crown in 2016.
After winning the crown for Miss Continentes Unidos 2022, she wrote on her Instagram page her message of thankfulness to all those people who had helped her win the crown. She also mentioned that it was a great honor to represent the Philippines in the international pageantry.
“Philippines! It is a great honor to carry you across my chest. I am ecstatic and gasping for words as I jot this,” posted by Mercado.
After thanking her friends, family, and the people she’s grateful for, she said, “The crown is not only mine, this is yours too!” Implying that the crown was a win for everyone and not only for herself.
Ivanova Vélez of Ecuador was named first runner-up while Karen Ortíz of Colombia ended as second runner-up.
The representatives of Venezuela, Lis Arbelaes, Paraguay, Gretha Matiauda, and Mexico, Ayram Ortíz were third, fourth, and fifth runners-up, respectively.
Finalizing the Top 10 of the Latin-based pageantry were the representatives of Brazil, Larissa Barros, Peru, Kiara Chaud, Panama, Guadalupe Ureña, and South Africa, Jané Bacher.
The Miss United Continents Philippines Organization is under new management managed by title-holder and National Director, Jeslyn Santos, Miss United Continents 2016. Miss Tourism Philippines Model of the Universe 2016 Jean Tumang is the General Manager, and Andy Cayn, International Media Photographer is the organization’s Public Relations Director.
