Last April 8, 2022, Porac City Mayor Jaime Capil, alongside his Bayung Porac Team unveiled a replica of the historical “Babo Robot” landmark situated at the town’s Baywalk.
The Replica of the “Babo Robot” has a total height of 17-feet-the robot, 12 ft, and its base is 5 ft. The replica is made from metal, resin, and wood.
The “Babo Robot” is a 30-foot fighting machine from the 1996 film Robo Warriors which was filmed mostly in Porac Town.
The storyline of the film centers around a giant robot that originally came from outer space to fight and protect the planet Earth from an invasion of alien attackers, which is mentioned by the Municipal Tourism Office led by Officer in Charge Gem Marimla.
The production company donated the robot to the local government and left it at Barangay Mancatian, once they finished filming the movie.
The gigantic robot became a famous landmark most local people called it “Babo Robot” despite the vast lahar sand around the area. However, over time, the gigantic robot completely vanishes as it is torn into pieces. While the traces of the original robot can’t be traced, the stories of the gigantic robot remain and are passed by those people who were fortunate enough to see it in person.
Capil mentioned, “We want our people to relive that time when we had this gigantic robot, and for our children and their children to know the story behind the “Babo Robot” name.”
Carlo Gomez and Derek Anicete, who are considered Local artists took at least 3 months to replicate the replica of the famous robot.
Anicete and Gomez both express gratitude to Capil for giving them a big opportunity and tremendous support to replicate the famous giant robot.
Present during the unveiling ceremonies were Capil’s running mate Councilor Francis Tamayo, and Bayung Porac councilor bets Councilor re-electionist Michelle Bengco, Barangay Palat Captain Bong Buan, Barangay Manibaug Paralaya Captain Adrian Carreon, Barangay Pio and Model Community Captain Ayot Dimalanta, Barangay Pias Captain Noel Manalo, engineer Joy David, former Peso manager Sheryl Bulanadi and former Sangguniang Kabataan chairman Jovy Venzon.
The “Babo Robot” model stands in the center of the Bayung Porac Baywalk, which has become a popular tourism spot in town.
