So when I was told that I get to go to Duck & Co. again for the WIP feature, I was more than excited as I remember all those tasty dishes I was able to try from my first visit. Going there was a challenge for me not because Duck & Co. is difficult to locate, in fact it’s only along Lazatin Boulevard in Dolores, San Fernando so you can never get lost but it was the super duper rush hour traffic that made getting there seemed like forever hence, I was really starving when I got there.
But the waiting game was all worth it because when I got there, I learned that they have merged Duck & Co and Night Market XL as one. I believe change is good. Like the merging of these two, you don’t just get to eat unlimited Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and the newest addition of Mexican foods from Duck & Co, you also get to eat unlimited varieties of barbeque and street foods from the Night Market XL. ALL these unlimited lip-smacking foods for only 288 pesos!
So let’s dig in shall we? Night Market XL is now upstairs giving you a rooftop-ish barbeque party vibe. Their barbeque/grilling and street food station setup are inspired by Jalan Alor, a famous street in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where there are heaps of stalls serving varieties of foods especially affordable skewered meats and vegetables. To give you a better picture, Night Market XL’s street food and barbeque station has a wide selection from chicken and pork barbeque, bacon rolls, grilled vegetables and of course our very own betamax (pigs blood), balunbalunan (gizzard), helmet (chicken head), adidas (chicken feet) and chicken butt (paldeut for us Kapampangans). Don’t forget our comfort tusok tusok foods (hot dogs, fishballs, kikiam, squid balls, quail eggs and tofu).
Next to the barbeque/grilling and street food station is the Samgyeopsal Station. They don’t just offer the regular thin sliced/bacon strip meat but what they have is thickly sliced pork belly that goes with different Korean side dishes (banchan).
While waiting for your barbeques and street foods to get done, you can also head over to their indoor dining area. Duck & Co have got your main dish selections. You can start from their Japanese ramen, maki and sushi or have a taste of their Korean Japchae (Stir Fried Noodle) and shift to their Chinese food – rice topped with Hainanese and Cantonese chicken with different sauces to go with them, (ginger oil, chili garlic, sweet soy sauce and Cantonese sauce) and make sure you try all their dim sums too.
And if you’re into vegetables, herbs and likes more distinctive flavors you can munch down on their bun bo xao (Vietnamese noodle salad) or the newest addition to their buffet, their Mexican tacos, nachos and chicken dishes (fried chicken, buffalo wings, and sriracha wings). And finally, you can end the night with their sweet mais or banana con yelo.
I can recall that I had a very good dining experience on my first visit but oh my, it’s true that the experience is better and sweeter the second time around. I can honestly say that this time, I was able to enjoy more food and ate more than my belly could normally accommodate. I’ve also noticed that it was nearly full house, people just keep on coming and it was a weeknight not even Friday or weekends. So it’s that good. Merging Duck & Co. and Night Market XL is obviously a clever scheme.
So I dare you not to miss the gastronomic experience at Duck & Co and Night Market XL not just because of the ‘Xtra Large’ servings but because you can feel that everyone – from their managers to people that prepare and serves the food has put in ‘Xtra Love’ to their customer service.
