In the past years, the buffet scene has been an ongoing trend in Pampanga. And we cannot deny the fact that as Kapampangans, aside from being the culinary capital of the Philippines, we at the same time unquestionably love to eat as well.
I have been hearing a lot about Duck & Co at Souq Pampanga. especially of its unique set up and ambiance. So I was excited to chow down on their Asian Buffet. They have Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese and of course Filipino food stations. So I guess they have defied the saying, ‘hitting two birds with one stone’ because to them it’s actually hitting 5 in one stone or 288 Php for 5 different all you can eat Asian dishes. Isn’t that irresistible? Of course, I had to try everything!
The first item I had tried in the buffet was their Chinese food, they have the Hainanese and Cantonese chicken and you are free to choose which sauce to go with them, (ginger oil, chili garlic, sweet soy sauce and Cantonese sauce). I personally liked the chili garlic sauce because the spicy and garlicky flavors gave my appetite a much-needed boost. Don’t forget to make space for their dim sum too. We were also lucky enough that day to have been offered an additional freebie on their Chinese menu – pork spare ribs Cantonese style. They do not serve this every day and mostly they serve this on weekends and I think you know what happened next – I took advantage of it!
I am a Korean and Japanese food freak so I definitely enjoyed their thick sliced samgyeopsal with all the banchan or the so-called side dishes. Of course, it wouldn’t be complete without the staple maki and sushi and it was my first time to try their bacon wrapped sushi. Who doesn’t love bacon on their dish?! And to top it all up, they have pork, chicken yakitori and other skewered meat with veggies that smells and tastes good!
One of the highlights of my Duck & Co. experience was being able to try unlimited Vietnamese dishes. I don’t really get to eat Vietnamese food often enough, like what I have said, I’d rather go for Korean or Japanese so I was really keen on trying out their selections. What’s available on their Vietnamese food station are fresh and fried spring rolls, bun bo xao (Vietnamese noodle salad) and of course pho.
Fun fact: I actually found myself staring blankly at the buffet table because I was confused and did not know which of the ingredients should go first or if I will just mix it all up in the bowl, good thing the staff was there to help make one for bun bo xao and pho first timers like me and I ended up going for a second round.
I was so full, but I couldn’t resist our very own Filipino tusok-tusok foods and of course, one can make the most out of the dessert food section by cooling down with their mais and saging con yelo.
What’s remarkable with this place is that it gives you both a warm and cozy feeling while dining. It felt like you were in the comfort of your own dining and living room and I thought that it is consistent with what they offer, a very homely setting. They serve the most common and can be considered as comfort foods from each of the above mentioned Asian cuisines and that makes their Asian buffet appealing for people of all ages. Who doesn’t want comfort? I’d say that you should try it with your family and friends and experience a trip to an unlimited world of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Filipino dishes in one comfy sitting.
