“Where do you want to eat?”, “I don’t know, which meal you’d want?”, “I’d love to have a noodle soup but I wanted to eat rice meal and oh! some dim sum too.” Uh oh? Pretty hard to decide, Isn’t it? We all seem to have ourselves in this situation. Well, I do a lot. Choosing where and what to eat have been pretty hard, especially when you know that you are surrounded by a lot of good restaurants and food parks.
If you ever happened to bound in Lazatin Blvd., San Fernando, Pampanga for a food hunt, you are lucky as there are numbers of good restaurants along the road. “Night Market XL in The Souq” is definitely a good go. I actually keep on hearing about it and Night Market XL is making a good sound on my Facebook feed, so there’s no way for me not to try their food and get a picture for my Instagram.
Enchanting! This was the first word that slipped through my mouth when I have arrived the restaurant; known and called “The Souq”. It is a courtyard-like restaurant designed with antique-styled walls, floor, doors, and windows. With plants and flowers used to décor the entryway, it brings you green nature feel and fresh air. The Souq mostly uses low yellow and white light which gives you warmth, comfort, and relaxation. Its “Night Market” light bulb patterned signage on the top side looks great making it easy for people to find the place and is eye-catching!
The actual location which is known as The Souq contains 3 restaurants inside. The Souq restaurant, Duck & Co. and the Night Market XL which is at the middle far end from the entrance. The atrium is decorated with antique wooden furniture and memorabilia adding so much elegance. Every corner is fascinating and a picture perfect indeed.
This is the Night Market XL, an eat all you can restaurant with different food stalls serving variety of dishes and meals for only Php 288.00!
Its huge door will lead you to Night Market XL outdoor restaurant area. The first thing that will welcome you is their barbecue stall. Oh also, you will be greeted with smiles from their staff and cook which I really like!
The barbeque area is a street inspired setting decorated with Red Chinese lanterns. They serve a variety of bbq like hotdog, chicken intestine, pork and chicken bbq and much more than we usually see in a bbq restaurant or even in a street food stalls. What’s extra is that they also serve a vegetable bbq. Yes, I will surely enjoy this! They have plenty of different vegetables on a stick and what I really like are the mixed veggies that were cut into julienne strips with cherry tomatoes and hardboiled eggs that are wrapped in a bacon. If you’re not a veggie fan, this might encourage you to try some!
I learned that what they present is inspired by Jalan Alor bbq. Jalan Alor is known for an overwhelming food destination in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia where they serve a variety of food like barbecued meats, noodles, and desserts from Malay, Chinese and Thai cuisine. Wow! I think it’s amazing they brought it here in Pampanga.
Next to the bbq area is Night Market XL’s air-conditioned room. This is where a line of inviting food stalls is located. You will notice how presentable and neat they placed the tableware in the middle area. The Night Market XL is decorated with different attention-grabbing display materials. You will also find a Nintendo family computer that you can play with your friends.
They made sure that while you enjoy the food you enjoy its market scenery too!
But wait there’s more. The Night Market XL has also a backyard area for you to dine in. It got you a garden setting with a basketball court on the side which is free to use. This restaurant literally has rooms full of surprises!
Now I’m taking you to the Night Market XL indoor food stalls…
For a starter, it’s perfect to go in their Dimsum bar. They have Japanese and pork siomai, shark’s fin, gyoza and siopao. These are being kept hot for you to enjoy! Next to it is a Samgyeopsal stall. This is not the usual samgy as they serve a Filipino side dish along with its Korean side dish. Wow! Flipino side dishes available are sweetened dried dilis, Beansprout with tofu, kangkong stri fry, legume with carrot stir fry, sweet and tasty eggplant and more.
If you crave for a rice meal, they serve delicious Shawarma rice, pork bulgogi rice and nasi lemak with chicken. For pasta lovers, they also serve Classic spaghetti and Carbonara. Something exciting about their pasta is that you have the freedom to choose your own ingredients available on their bar and they will have it cooked for you.
Of course, who would forget Chicken? It’s appetizing how they placed it on a chopping board and put a spotlight on it. It’s like, Hey! come pick me! They also have fries and chips. Another stall which I like is the Soup bar wherein you can choose your favourite add-on to your soup like Spring onion, carrot, Japanese corn, french bean, Japanese cabbage, quail egg, squid ball and much more.
Here’s the Vegetable bbq with Malaysian dipping sauce. This is really good and a must a try! I’ll keep coming back for these!
You will love their sweetened dried dilis for you Samgyeopsal.
Now I understand why it is named Night Market XL, aside from its “xtra large” engaging setting and variation of food for our different cravings, they made sure to cook and prepare each food with “xtra love” satisfying your cravings!
You will not only go home with a happy tummy but a night full of fun shared moments with your family, friends or loved ones.
The Night Market XL is open from 5 pm until 10 pm. I encourage you to come early as possible to get your perfect spot to dine before it gets pretty full. 😉
